Kansas State Poet LaureateThe current Kansas State Poet Laureate is

Responding to numerous requests by Kansas citizens to the Kansas Arts Commission and the Office of the Governor, the Governor established a State Poet Laureate position in 2004.
The current Kansas State Poet Laureate is: Huascar Medina. (See link above for biography information). Huascar is a poet and writer from Topeka. He has won many awards for his poetry and Kansas is proud to have him represent the State.

Humanities Kansas is the official Humanities Organization for the State of Kansas. It provides grants, resources and information on speakers. Please see site for more information.

Kansas Poets dot com is a great resource for Kansas poets. The site features information about writing poetry, news about Kansas poets and anthology news.

“For the past several years thousands of Kansas high school students have participated in the Poetry Out Loud State recitation competitions, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts. Your high school is invited to participate.
Poetry Out Loud is a wonderful program for students. The program helps the develop Stage and speaking skills, confidence and a love of poetry. Poetry really needs to be spoken to truly be enjoyed. Please show your support for this important project in Kansas. Deb Kohn, is the Kansas Poetry Out Loud Coordinator. From the groups mission statement: ‘Since 1904, the club has offered the opportunity to writers to share experiences and problems unique to their profession, not only to novices but also to authors of national reputation.

The Kansas Writers Association is a group in Wichita that supports all genres of writing. They provide monthly meetings (when possible), conferences and resources. Many of their monthly meetings include a theme, writing project. Membership dues for adults are $20.00 per year. See link for details.

** The Writing Center at the University of Kansas** provides feedback for Kansas writers on their projects and advice for them going forward. The Writing Center has been a helpful resource for many Kansas writers. Information is available on the link above.&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Steven Robert Heine is an American poet and author. He has spent much of his life supporting poetry projects and events. He is the author of 8 volumes of poetry. In 2011 he was seriously injured in a fall that left him in great pain and almost unable to walk. He suffered a stroke in 2023. Heine receives no disability and relies on a small pension and retirement income. He is no longer able to make public appearances.

Steven Robert Heine is a West Coast poet & author. He has traveled extensively through the United States, including a number of trips to Kansas. He has spent his life promoting poetry; serving as founder for many poetry contests. He is the author of fifteen books, including poetry, history and his own short auto-biographies. His books can be found on Ebay, Amazon and Amazon Kindle.
Heine was crippled in a fall in 2011 and now makes very few public appearances.
